His dad Jeetendra Kumar was a policeman and also the head constable of the Punjab Police, while his mum Janak Rani was a fulltime housewife. His dad passed away in 2004 with cancer. He had been diagnosed in 1997, he passed away in the AIIMS in Delhi. He has two other sisters, his brother Ashok Kumar Sharma who followed the footsteps of his dad by becoming a policeman and his sister’s Pooja Pawan Devgan.
